At this level you are almost bilingual. You master the target language at an operational level in your daily activities and in various professional situations.

You are capable of actively taking part in conversations concerning your daily and professional life. You can even understand more detailed and nuanced information. You do need to consult a dictionary from time to time, especially for more complex sentence structures or for the usage of typical expressions.

3 Independent speaker |
B2 |
You are able to interact more fluently and easily have a conversation. Although you do not yet master the more difficult grammatical structures and detailed shades of meaning, this does not necessarily hinder communication. At this point, you can ‘work’ in the target language.

You can fully understand the main points of topics encountered daily in work, school, leisure, etc and you can participate as long as the subjects are relevant to you.

You are able to understand conversations tackling information about day life. You can answer simple questions and carry on a
conversation in the present tense, but you are likely to make some elementary mistakes and consequently, you will be asked to
clarify yourself. Limited vocabulary impedes fluency and understanding.

Communication is very limited. You can understand simple instructions but you can only reply with simple words. You often
translate literally from your mother tongue resulting in the message not getting across very well. You make elementary
mistakes which hinder communication.
